Declassifying the Classified
Memorandum | Variable Typeface

This project explores censorship and secrecy in classified government documents through the design of a variable typeface. By creating two contrasting optical extremes, one simplified and highly legible for public information, and another more complex and dense for sensitive content, the typeface visually encodes levels of disclosure and control. It questions how typography can reflect hierarchy, legibility, and restricted access, while adopting a dual tone that combines authoritative institutional language with critical commentary, revealing the tension between what is hidden and what is made visible.
