Nostalgic Futures | Magazine

Nostalgic Futures examines how historical narratives continue to repeat themselves, especially in a world shaped by migration, cultural hybridity, and identity conflict. The magazine challenges Eastern and Western perspectives through two parallel lenses, revealing how each constructs and perceives the “other.” Structured into three parts, the Eastern Gaze, the Western Gaze, and a central Coexistence space, the same content is reinterpreted through distinct visual systems to expose bias and encourage dialogue rather than impose a single truth. Moving across past, present, and speculative futures, the project critiques one-sided narratives and the role of media in shaping them. Led and art directed by Norma Elzoghbi, the publication brings together over 45 international collaborators. It serves as both a personal and collective exploration of identity, aiming to bridge cultures, challenge assumptions, and foster multi-perspective understanding across borders.
